Les Wilwerding entered the United States Marine Corps in 1978, fresh out of high school. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he was invited to a Bible study on base where he was given the Gospel and was soon brought to a saving knowledge of Christ.

After returning to the States, he felt the call of God to the ministry and ended up attending the Bible college where we met. We were married in 1985, and I taught kindergarten in our church’s Christian school while Les finished his schooling and worked at a local parking deck company.

For most of the next twenty years, Les worked for that parking deck company as very nearly the sole supporter of our little brood. He also pastored one church, assisted in trying to start four others, and served as assistant pastor three times including at Zion Chapel of Holland, Michigan, where he is now an elder. His current duties include teaching the adult Sunday school class, assisting in an outreach to inner-city children, preaching at the local rescue ministry, preaching at Zion Chapel on occasion, and accompanying our pastor on pastoral calls as needed.

When we moved to Holland, Michigan, Les took an apprenticeship with Duca Tile and Stone, LLC, creating granite and other stone counter tops. As a side business, he crafts lovely stone cutting and kneading boards. We hope to have his website up very soon, so check back for updates!

Les’s interests include:
•    Reading, studying, memorizing, and preaching the Word of God
•    Polishing rocks--He always wanted a rock polisher when he was a kid, but never got one.
•    Walking trails and country roads, especially with our daughter, Lydia
•    Arguing about the weather, and other important issues, with Jonathan
•    Bowling and playing tennis with Sam when he’s home from the air force
•    Working on projects around the house with his right-hand man, Andrew
•    In his spare time, he loves to read the old divines of long ago:
    ~ Jonathan Edwards
    ~ John Bunyan
    ~ Charles Spurgeon
    ~ and others

It is very difficult for me to frame the words to describe what Les means to me, to our children, and to all who meet him. What can I say? Though not perfect by any means, he is still the most wonderful husband/father a family could ever hope for, and one of the most godly, pleasant, patient, and sensible men I have ever had the privilege of meeting in my lifetime. (Thank you, Lord!)
